FIND OUT IF YOUR POLICE DEPT IS PARTICIPATING IN THE JOINT TERRORISM TASK FORCE

Below is the letter to send to your Police Chief, City Council Member, or Mayor:

Dear [INSERT POLICE CHIEF, CITY COUNCIL MEMBER OR MAYOR NAME],

Trump is following through on a dangerous promise that intends to rip many families apart. There is no “wait and see.”

Trump just signed an executive order stripping federal funds from cities that have declared themselves a Sanctuary City. This will affect millions of Muslims, immigrants, Black people, and protesters who deserve safety and full protections. This could also strip millions of dollars in federal grants from our police. We are all at heightened risk.

Trump has made promises for racist and religious profiling, such as creating a Muslim registry, massive deportations, and crushing political dissent. However, he can only accomplish most parts of this fascist agenda through the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), a partnership between local police departments and the local FBI office.

I demand to know if any of our city cops are participating in the Joint Terrorism Task Force. Are they? Are OUR police officers, paid for by OUR taxes, participating in the FBI JTTF during Trump’s presidency? I need a clear answer.

If our police department is working in an FBI JTTF, it will be under a contract -- a "memorandum of understanding" (MOU) -- which gives the FBI complete control over what the our police officers do and how they do it while working with the FBI. That would mean our police officers are working for the Trump administration, not US and not OUR community.

This arrangement is not acceptable now that Donald Trump is president. You need to assert local control over our local police officers working with Trump's FBI JTTF.

We are counting on you to never back down or give in. Protect our communities from Trump's hatred and bigotry. Remember, what happens to me, happens to you, too.

Please provide me a prompt and straightforward answer.

Thank you.

A concerned [INSERT YOUR CITY NAME] resident,
